As Memorial Day weekend approaches, it's time to prepare for outdoor fun and family gatherings. With the excitement of barbecues, bonfires, and fireworks, it's crucial to prioritize fire safety and be mindful of the heat. A to Z Fire is here to help you enjoy a safe and memorable holiday with essential fire safety tips and an unbeatable summer sale on reconditioned fire extinguishers.

Fire Safety Tips for Memorial Day Weekend:

  • Grill Safely:
  • Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup.
  • Place your grill well away from your home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
  • Never leave your grill unattended while cooking.

  • Bonfire Precautions:
  • Build your bonfire at least 25 feet away from structures and anything that can burn.
  • Never use gasoline or other flammable liquids to start or accelerate the fire.
  • Keep a bucket of water, hose, or a fire extinguisher nearby.

  • Fireworks Safety:
  • Only use fireworks outdoors and away from buildings and dry grass.
  • Have a designated adult handle all fireworks, and never allow children to play with them.
  • Always have a bucket of water or a garden hose ready in case of fire.

  • Campfire Guidelines:
  • Clear away dry leaves and sticks, overhanging low branches, and shrubs.
  • Keep a safe distance between the campfire and your tent, and never leave the campfire unattended.
  • Fully extinguish the fire before leaving the site by dousing it with water and stirring the ashes until cold.

  • Heatwave Awareness:
  • Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing to stay cool.
  • Be aware of the signs of heatstroke, such as headache, dizziness, and nausea. Seek medical attention if necessary.

  • General Precautions:
  • Test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are working properly.
  • Keep fire extinguishers readily available in areas where fires are more likely to start, such as the kitchen and near outdoor cooking areas.
