NICEVILLE – What started out as an electrical fire Saturday spread to damage four vehicles and two homes. Niceville Assistant Fire Chief Tony Lohrman said they got the call at 12:51 p.m. for a shed on fire at 305 Kelly Road. “The fire from the shed spread to a van and an R.V.,” he said.
The flames also spread to overhead trees and power lines and melted aluminum siding on two nearby homes, he said. The State Fire Marshal was called in and found that the initial fire was electrical. No injuries were reported. “The occupants were not home at the time of the fire,” Lohrman said.
In total, the shed, a truck, a motorcycle, a van and a camper were all total losses. The two homes had damage. One of the homes was likely habitable, Lohrman said. The other sustained damage to the electrical system and would have to be repaired and inspected before residents could stay there. “The Red Cross was called in,” he said. He estimated that the total damage was around $200,000. “Due to the multiple fire locations, we did call for a second alarm,” he said, explaining that seven departments in total responded for the fire. Those departments were Niceville, East Niceville, North Bay, Eglin, Valparaiso, Ocean City-Wright and Destin.
