The State Fire Marshal’s Office has released a one-page letter deeming last July’s explosion at the Blue Rhino propane plant “accidental. “The letter contained no details about the cause of the July 29 blast which injured eight workers and sent propane tanks and twisted hunks of metal flying into nearby properties. The plant on County Road 448 has since made safety upgrades like new exit gates and installed an automated “water-deluge” sprinkling system. Last month it resumed full production. The case has been deemed “closed” according to a Jan. 22 letter to Tavares Fire Chief Richard Keith, however state fire marshal spokeswoman Ashley Carr said the report is not finished. Keith said while his department has remained “concerned” it has “moved on past Blue Rhino.
