The Crucial Nighttime Habit: Why Closing Your Door Can Save Lives

AtoZ Fire • February 2, 2024

Hello A to Z Fire community!

We hope this message finds you well as we kick off the month with a crucial reminder about fire safety. As avid supporters of Fire Is Everyone’s Fight, we're committed to spreading awareness and ensuring the safety of our community. This February, the focus is on Closed Door Messaging, and we're here to shed light on why closing your door at night can be a life-saving habit.

1. Escaping a Fire:

When faced with a fire emergency, every second counts. One essential piece of advice is to close the door behind you as you make your way to safety. This simple act can help contain the fire, prevent the spread of smoke, and buy you precious time.

2. Unable to Escape:

In the unfortunate event that escape is not an option, getting behind a closed door can provide a crucial barrier between you and the fire. Once there, immediately call 9-1-1 for assistance. Closed doors can be an effective shield, protecting you from the immediate dangers and allowing rescue teams more time to reach you.

3. Close Before You Doze:

An impactful campaign known as #CloseBeforeYouDoze emphasizes the importance of closing your bedroom door before going to sleep. This small habit can make a significant difference, as closed doors act as a barrier, limiting the spread of flames and smoke. It's a simple yet powerful step toward enhancing your safety and that of your loved ones.

At A to Z Fire, our mission goes beyond fire protection—we’re here to serve, support, and stand with our community. That’s why we were proud to be a Gold Sponsor at this month’s Rock the Rocks live music and market event at Crabby Bill’s in Indian Rocks Beach! With thousands of attendees coming through for great music, food, local vendors, and community connection, we saw the perfect opportunity to do something special. 🔥 Hundreds of FREE residential fire extinguishers were given away —because safety starts at home. While these 2.5lb extinguishers aren’t designed for commercial compliance, they’re perfect for home kitchens, vehicles, RVs, and other personal spaces. One per household went out with a smile, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the turnout. We also had code-compliant 5lb and 10lb fire extinguishers available for purchase —both new and reconditioned—at some of the lowest prices ever offered , making this event not only a celebration, but a serious boost to fire safety in our neighborhoods. 💬 From families and first responders to business owners and local leaders, we had the chance to connect, share safety tips, and spread awareness ahead of hurricane season—a crucial time to make sure homes and businesses are protected. A special thank you to The Original Crabby Bill’s and Tiffany for the opportunity to sponsor such a meaningful event. It’s days like this that remind us why we do what we do. Whether you're a longtime customer or just discovering us for the first time, we’re here when you need us—with reliable service, honest pricing, and a commitment to keeping Florida safe. Stay safe, stay ready—and we’ll see you at the next event! —The A to Z Fire Team

When it comes to fire safety, most people focus on the fire extinguisher itself—and that’s a good start. But too often, the protection for the extinguisher gets overlooked. That’s where fire extinguisher cabinets come in.

It’s easy to ignore a beeping fire alarm panel—just press “silence,” and the noise stops. Problem solved… right? Wrong. That warning signal is your system’s way of saying, “Hey, something’s not right.” Silencing the panel only stops the sound; it doesn’t fix the issue—and worse, it could leave your property unprotected. Here are the top five reasons your fire alarm panel might be in trouble—and what you should do about it:

April is here, bringing the saying we all know: “April showers bring May flowers.” But while we prepare for rainy days, it’s a good time to think about another essential system designed to protect us— fire alarm systems . Just like you wouldn’t ignore a leaky roof in a storm, you shouldn’t neglect your fire alarms. A well-maintained fire alarm system can mean the difference between a minor incident and a major catastrophe.

Fire safety isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. While a standard 5lb ABC fire extinguisher is a common choice, it may not always provide the level of protection your business needs. Different environments require different types of extinguishers to stay code-compliant and truly fire-safe.
